Photography/Applied Photography

The photography program NKU offers a B.A. in Applied Photography, a B.F.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in fine art photography and in applied photography. Students outside the art major can take an area of concentration in photography by taking ARTO 210 and four other photography courses at the 300 level and above. Studio courses are taught by Barry Andersen, Barbara Houghton, Matthew Albritton and Chris Smith.  Various excellent part-time faculty join us for single semesters.

We teach in well-equipped digital labs, studios and with wet technology. Our philosophy is to give our students a solid background in creative image making, history and aesthetics and a strong technical background for working in digital media and at the advanced level in wet processes in photography.

As early as our first courses, students begin to work with digital technology to hone their skills and strengthen their vision, composition and techniques. Our strong digital courses give students ample background for the competitive field. We are up to date with all current photographic practices.
