English Majors Have Interesting Options  

Four options are available to English majors, effective in 2010:

• Literature Option

• Writing Studies Option

• Creative Writing Option

• Bachelor's Degree with Secondary Education Certification

Note: If you became an English major before 2010, you may remain on your current path to a degree:

• Emphasis in Literature

• Emphasis in Literature and Writing

However, if you would like to consider switching to the new English major, please talk with your advisor or the department chair.  We can help you determine if it would be to your advantage to switch.  We will do our best to make sure all courses you have taken will count in the "new" major. The "new" major changes only the writing options and literature option. There is no change in the English/Secondary-Education option.

Our department also offers four minors involving literature and writing that can help students improve communication skills, critical thinking and logical analysis.

The minors include:

• English

• Creative Writing

• Professional Writing

• Cinema Studies
