The piano pedagogy program at Northern Kentucky University is a flexible 34-semester-hour course of study designed to help pianists and teachers develop skills in the art of teaching piano and in operating a financially successful independent teaching studio. Each of the four semesters of piano pedagogy is dedicated to the study of teaching materials and approaches for students at all levels and in all age groups from preschool children to adults in retirement. Pedagogy classes are interactive and include teaching demonstrations by faculty and students, guest lectures and field trips to independently owned music schools for observation. Teaching experience is provided through the Pedagogy Internship and the Piano Pedagogy Resource Center provides a wealth of materials for study and review.

Our alumni run their own independent studios, teach in music schools and elementary schools and own and run independent music schools.
